Tom won a narrow victory in 2018 and is only the second Democrat to represent this district in the past 104 years. He faces a tough challenge from the son of a former Governor in 2020.

Tom Malinowski was born in Poland and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 6, as his family sought refuge during the Cold War. He served on President Clinton’s National Security Council, worked for Human Rights Watch, and served as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor in the Obama administration.

He is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee where he has been a strong voice on national security.
